Deciding to Adopt

Friday, October 5th, 2007

Before my husband and I were married, we talked about adopting a few children. We wanted to adopt children not as infants, but as toddlers or older children who didn’t have a home. Until recently, I didn’t know how extensive adoption could be.

Since I like to plan and contemplate my decisions for a long time before making a final decision, I was very worried about choosing the right adoption agency. I found this guide to be helpful for everything about adoption, from choosing the agency to understanding the adoption process step-by-step. I would recommend using an agency if you are adopting. In the end, you get a beautiful child to raise and it is a very fulfilling experience.

Preserving Memories

My favorite Grandma passed away last month. My Grandma and me were very close and I was very depressed after she passed, although I believe she is in a better place now.

My Grandma knew me well because we emailed frequently from the time I was a junior in high school. She knew I had done genealogy work for the family and that I collected antiques, particularly dresses and patterns of 1940’s dresses (my favorite era). When she died, she left me in her will her antique china tea cups and saucers, family photographs, some old patterns, and a family Bible that recorded the births and deaths of family members.

I cherished the photographs, as well as the other items. However, I was disappointed that only one tea cup and saucer were in one piece after years of use and a reckless shipping trip. It was a beautiful piece, with gold and amber paintings of flowers on it.

I talked to my Mom about finding the missing pieces and she recommended looking through china replacement dish services. With very little information about the brand or manufacturer, I began searching for the other pieces of the set. Luckily, I found an online search database that let me search by pictures. After some work, I found the missing pieces. Now I have priceless family possessions that I can pass on to my children and grandchildren.

Glorious Food, Food, Food

Although I love to cook, I’m not one for entertaining. I’m just too fearful that I will be so nervous that the food won’t turn out tasting delicious, thus ruining the whole evening.

So when I wanted to plan a family gathering, I decided to hire a caterer. I found an experienced Salt Lake City catering company to do the job. The best part was that they had so many menu options! The food was far from boring or tasteless. My family and friends kept coming back for seconds.

Best of all, they were prompt, courteous, and had the right portions of food. They also provided beautiful dinnerware and platters. After everyone had their fill, they even gave us the leftovers neatly bagged.

I would definitely recommend hiring a caterer for your next event because it removes the stress and worrying so that you can enjoy the party just like everyone else!
