Paying for My Beauty Addictions

Friday, February 15th, 2008

Like every girl out there, I have certain “luxuries” that I simply cannot (or perhaps will not) go without.  These include my addiction to Saks Fifth Avenue, True Religion Jeans, and Bumble and Bumble hair products.  However, my bank account is growing slim and it would be nice to have some supplemental income to help pay for my needs - one that would not interfere with my current full-time job.   So after doing a little research and asking some friends, I have come up with a list of possibilities…who knows, perhaps one would work well for you!

  • Become a mystery shopper.  Getting paid to shop?  I know, it sounds too good to be true but believe it!  Retail and restaurant corporations use mystery shopping companies (who in turn employ mystery shoppers) as a way to improve customer service.  There are tons of companies out there to work for but unfortunately, a number of scams as well.  Legitimate companies will never make you pay to be employed or “become a member.”  Look for companies that offer an online application.
  •  eBay!  I have a closet full of stuff that I am going to list on ebay…one man’s trash is another’s treasure!
  • I have toyed with the idea of opening an online retail store using a dropship company.  Imagine an online store that sold nothing but designer purses…just my kind of store!
  • Since I love to write (and I was an English Language major in college), why not put my talent to good use?  There are literally thousands of freelance writing and editing jobs available online…you just have to look.
  • I have a friend who is an amazing amateur photographer.  He loves taking photos and he sells them all online and makes pretty good money on the side.  Do something where you can utilize a passion of yours.

Anyone have any cool ideas?

Our New Family Addition

Friday, November 30th, 2007

Christmas is coming a little early this year!  My husband and I absolutely adore little dogs (except oversized rats chihuahuas – not a big fans).  So for Christmas this year, we purchased a brand new darling puppy!  He is a shorkie…a shih tzu/yorkie mix.  He is only about six weeks right now, so it will be a few more weeks until we pick him up.

My poor husband, he didn’t really know what he was in for when we decided to get a dog.  Well…after seeing the credit card bill, he does now!  I’ve already picked up tons of adorable yorkie dog clothes, a plush puppy bed, and a gorgeous leather dog carrier purse.  I just tell him not to worry…we’ll have the best dressed pup on the block!

Here are a few pictures of our little guy…we have yet to pick out a name…any suggestions??

Charli’s Holiday Must-Haves

Tuesday, November 6th, 2007

Glamorous and high-priced certainly do not have to go hand-in-hand. You can keep up with all the latest styles and fashion trends without breaking the bank. Here are my favorite (inexpensive) items for the upcoming holiday season!

Sparkling JewelryBanana Republic is one of my favorite places to pick up chic yet modern jewelry that is perfect for the office and a night on the town. They have absolutely gorgeous pieces, most for under 50 bucks!

Dog Carrier Purse - Channel your inner celebrity and pick up one of fall’s hottest accessories…the dog purse. Perfect for your little furry friend, the purses are replete with shiny buckles, patent leather, and silver chains without the designer price tag!

Riding Boots - The fall fave is back and as hot as ever, especially paired with leggings or skinny jeans. My pick? Steve Madden’s Brown Riding boots…an inexpensive option at only $140.

Polished Nails - Nothing is more refined, sophisticated, or sexy than well-kept nails. Try a DIY manicure…it will not only save you time, but money. Keep nails trimmed, filed, and short especially if you wear dark polish. Colors to try: O.P.I.’s Midnight in Moscow and Vodka & Caviar.

Pea Coat - The pea coat is a wardrobe staple. They look great at any length and with anything…wear with a flattering pencil skirt or dark jeans. Victoria’s Secret has some of the cutest (and inexpensive) pea coats I have ever seen!

Creative Costume Ideas

Friday, October 26th, 2007

In the past, I’ve dressed up in costumes using anything I could find. I even managed to pull of a pirate one year. I don’t like to spend too much money on costumes, but I like to be original and creative.

Since Halloween falls on a Wednesday this year, my work decided to have a creative costume contest. I need help thinking up the best Halloween costume so I can win! Any ideas anyone?

Get Scared!

Friday, October 26th, 2007

I’m so excited that Halloween is less than a week away! I’m seeing Saw IV this weekend and I’ve got two Halloween parties lined up for the big night. I’m even planning on going to a haunted house, despite the fact that I’m easily scared.

As you can tell, I love Halloween. I found a gold mine of information online, featuring the best Denver Halloween attraction. They review the best haunted corn mazes, haunted houses, and even tell you about the new scary movies. It’s my favorite place to explore because it deals with all things spooky and has links to other places too.

Happy Halloween!!…(a month early)

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

October will be upon us in just a few short days…which means Halloween is just around the corner!  Call me crazy, but it happens to be one of my favorite holidays; the costumes, the parties, the haunted houses, the scary movies, I love it all!

So in honor of the upcoming Ghosts & Witches holiday, we’re going to be posting all things Halloween: party ideas, the best Colorado haunted houses, the best costumes, etc.  Enjoy!
